For this project I wanted to animate one of my oil paintings.I followed a tutorial on Vimeo that had steps for this liquid pixel simulation effect in Houdini.

Houdini - Mantra - Nuke

Step 1: Velocity points setup 

Assign points to color from image after extruding the grids volume. 

Step 2: Point Velocity

Setting a variation in point distribution and speed

Step 3: Flip Simulation

Step 4: Particle Fluid Surface + additional spheres

Creating additional spheres adds more dynamic shapes when combined with the Particle Fluid Surface. 

Step 5: Combining and Adding Scene

After merging the Particle Fluid Surface and spheres, I built a scene around the painting and animated the lights so they wouldn't interfere with the simulation
