NEBULA

The idea behind this project was to animate using CHOPS in Houdini. I wanted to create a space themed work with music that generated the light intensity based off of its wavelength. I found a low-tempo royalty free song that fit this theme. From there I used math to delete wave channels, created an ASAD light to control the light intensity channel, made a POP Solver that had spheres and the lights attached, and then created Fog for a more dynamic look.

Process: 

Step 1: Mp3 driven Chops

Import mp3 into CHOP Network. Delete one of two channels for wider light intensity range. I tried extracting the higher pitch sound as much as possible. 

Step 2: POP Solver

Scatter points on sphere

Connect POP Solver to points

Copy Spheres to points

Randomize sphere's scale

Step 3: ASAD Lighting

Create ASAD Light in Shop Network

Merge particles & assign material

Create parameter & assign ASAD Light to control light intensity through CHOPS

Higher= Brighter
Lower=Dimmer
(controlled by wavelength)

Step 4: Fog

Volume>VolumeVop> plug noise to VOP created in the Shop network
